A group of generous supporters of Topanga Women's Circle (TWC) has pledged $10,000 to match all donations raised up to that amount by December 31st, 2020. This means whether you give $25 or $100 or more, YOUR DONATION WILL BE DOUBLED, and is guaranteed to improve the lives of the Veterans and homeless families that TWC serves. Because of your generosity we are raising our goal to $20,000!!! We have never been so busy and your generosity will help us move comfortably into 2021, knowing we will be able to continue with our mission.
Homelessness in Los Angeles County has jumped 14.2% in 2019 and when Covid-19 hit, our fears for this at-risk community were magnified. While our mission to help these families remains the same, some things had to change in the way we work. We provide everything a family needs when they first move into their institutionally furnished housing, but the recent availability of more permanent housing has created a quicker turnaround time for move ins. Good news for these families and more purchasing for us! Until Covid-19 has bid farewell, we are not ecepting donations of household items at our bin. Because of this change, our budget for new purchases has dramatically increased during these last six months.
On average, we are helping eight to ten families a month on their journey to stability. Working with two agencies, Westwood Transitional Village and Venice Community Housing, TWC helps those whose needs are greatest by transforming their bare bones apartments into a comfortable and welcoming home. We make sure they have new bedding, towels, personal care items, school supplies, age appropriate books and toys and a fully stocked kitchen, including perishable for a week. These weary families finally have a safe place to call home while they await permanent housing.
